My Lovely Nanna

Created by Dan 5 years ago
When I was less than a day old she was there in the hospital. Visitors weren’t allowed in but that didn’t put Nanna off…Daddy sneaked her in.  She was thrilled to see me and brought Mummy a big bunch of flowers for being so clever.  I was her first grandchild and she loved me so much.

Nanna visited me in London as much as she could.  As soon as I was old enough, Nanna gave me the top of her frothy coffee - it was delicious.  Nanna and Granddad often took me to the park me and played with me while Mummy was looking after my baby brother.

Even when my family moved to Norfolk, Nanna came for long visits.   When she arrived I always ran to greet her with a big smile on my face.   Nanna and I often sat at the table all day crafting, from when I was as young as two. Nanna taught me a lot and I think I take after her.

Birthdays are special and Nanna never missed one.  On my birthday morning, after seeing mummy and Daddy, I would go for a big hug in bed with Nanna and Granddad.  It was then present opening time; Nanna would catch it all on camera and I can look at the photos now.

The summer just past, I was determined to go to the Isle of Wight. I told Nanna and the tickets were booked .We were on the ferry and I could see the island getting closer; it looked like a magical world .It was an amazing day!

We started off in Alum bay where there are lots of different coloured sands.  We hadn’t been there long when I climbed over the railings and slipped. BANG! I had a goose egg (as Nanna called it) on my head.  Nanna comforted me, and gave me the biggest hug. - hers were the best!

We made sure my accident didn’t spoil our day.  I sat on the chair lift with Nanna.  As we travelled down to the beach we looked down and saw: a wallet, three caps and some sunglasses.  So we held on tight to our bags and hoped they wouldn’t fall.

That day we explored the island.  Ivo and I searched for sea glass, sat with Nanna on the sea wall eating ice cream, swam in the shimmering waters and panned for gems. Finally we ate fish and chips in a restaurant before heading home.

Nanna has given me lots. I will treasure some things forever – my rainbow crochet blanket that I snuggle up in on the sofa, a cross-stitch picture with my name on and the charm bracelet she gave me at my first holy communion.

Last week we had to go to Fareham because Nanna was in hospital and very ill. I gave her lots of hugs and said “I love you’’.  I massaged her hands and I read to her “My Guardian Angel”.

I can’t see Nanna now because she is in Heaven but I feel she is always with me.
